Local & Sustainable Community Eatery · Cumbria

Proper food, local provenance, a place for everyone.

Meat from a butcher we trust, raised on farms across the county. Local roots, global flavour, with every cut cooked the way it deserves. Opening summer 2026 at The Railway Inn, in Lindal, Cumbria.

Our Story

We're Light & Salt Provisions CIC, a community eatery opening this summer at The Railway Inn, in Lindal.

Our meat comes from a butcher we trust, who buys from farms right across the county, and we can trace every cut back to the farm it came from. Then we cook it the way it deserves. Local roots, global flavour, nothing one size fits all.

Being a CIC means we're a proper business with a community heart, not a charity. Every plate we sell helps pay for the next good thing, from pay-what-you-can roasts to meals for neighbours who need them.

This is just the start, and we'd love you along for it.

The Mission

We're here to do a bit of good.

We're a Community Interest Company, which is the official way of saying we're a business that exists to do a bit of good. We're not a charity. Every plate we sell helps pay for the next good thing.

We want The Railway Inn, in Lindal, to be more than somewhere to eat. It's a place for the whole of Furness to use. We'll host events and fundraisers for local causes, open our doors to groups who need a room and a warm welcome, and give what we can to the people doing good work around us.

That includes the food. One Sunday a month, lunch is pay what you can. Same roast, same table, same welcome, whatever you put in. And once we're up and running, we'll cook donated meals each week for neighbours who need them.

Dignity over charity. That's the bit that matters to us.
